The Role

As a Mechanical Fitter, you will undertake the fitting, assembly, installation, maintenance, fault-finding and repair of machinery, mechanical components and industrial equipment.

Key Duties May Include:

  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications and technical information
  • Fit and assemble mechanical components, machinery and equipment
  • Install and align machinery and mechanical equipment
  • Dismantle machinery to inspect, repair or replace worn and defective components
  • Diagnose mechanical faults and determine appropriate repairs
  • Fit and replace bearings, shafts, couplings, seals, gears and other mechanical components
  • Service and repair pumps, gearboxes, conveyors and rotating equipment
  • Check components for accuracy, clearance and fit using precision measuring instruments
  • Carry out preventative, scheduled and breakdown maintenance
  • Overhaul and repair mechanical equipment and components
  • Work with hydraulic and pneumatic systems where required
  • Perform alignment, adjustment and testing of machinery following installation or repair
  • Use hand tools, power tools and workshop equipment safely and effectively
  • Follow workplace health and safety requirements and maintain high standards of workmanship

Key Requirements

  • Recognised trade qualification in Mechanical Fitting, Engineering – Mechanical Trade or equivalent
  • Strong practical experience working as a Mechanical Fitter
  • Demonstrated experience fitting, assembling, maintaining and repairing industrial machinery
  • Strong mechanical fault-finding and diagnostic skills
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications
  • Experience with bearings, shafts, couplings, gearboxes and other mechanical components
  • Confident using precision measuring instruments
  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems and equipment
  • Ability to work independently and as part of an engineering or maintenance team
  • Commitment to safe, high-quality workmanship
  • Willingness to relocate within Australia where required
  • Ability to pass drug and alcohol testing where required by the employer
