The Role
As an Air Conditioning & Refrigeration Technician, you will undertake the installation, service, maintenance, diagnostics, fault-finding and repair of air conditioning, HVAC and refrigeration systems and equipment.
The exact mix of work will vary between employers and positions, and we will aim to match your technical background and experience with a suitable Australian employer.
Key Duties May Include:
- Install, service, maintain and repair air conditioning and refrigeration systems and equipment
- Diagnose faults and repair or replace defective components, including compressors, motors, condensers, evaporators, pumps, controls and associated equipment
- Install, repair and maintain refrigerant pipework and associated components
- Cut, bend, braze and connect pipework as required
- Pressure test systems, identify and rectify leaks, evacuate systems and recover and charge refrigerant
- Test-operate, commission and adjust air conditioning and refrigeration systems to ensure correct and efficient operation
- Undertake preventative and scheduled maintenance
- Interpret technical drawings, specifications, schematics and manufacturer documentation
- Work across equipment such as VRF/VRV systems, packaged units, chilled water systems, split and ducted systems, cool rooms, freezer rooms and commercial refrigeration equipment
- Record faults identified, repairs completed and maintenance undertaken
- Provide high-quality service to commercial, industrial and domestic clients
- Comply with workplace health and safety and relevant refrigeration requirements
- Mentor apprentices and junior technicians where applicable
Key Requirements
- Trade qualification in Air Conditioning & Refrigeration, Refrigeration or an equivalent HVAC&R trade
- Strong practical experience as a qualified technician
- Strong fault-finding, diagnostics, service and repair skills
- Experience across commercial and/or industrial HVAC&R environments is highly regarded
- Experience working independently in a service environment
- Good communication and customer service skills
- Commitment to safe, high-quality workmanship
- Willingness to relocate within Australia where required
- Ability to pass drug and alcohol testing where required by the employer
